Lee Thompson Young first came into prominence with his role as Jett Jackson in Disney Channel’s television series The Famous Jett Jackson which aired from 1998 to 2001. In 1999 he also starred as Sam Sterling in Disney Channel Original Movie Johnny Tsunami. Some other movies he appeared in include Friday Night Lights,  Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story, Akeelah and the Bee and The Hills Have Eyes 2.

Young also appeared in some television series like South Beach, Smallville, Scrubs, FlashForward and Rizzoli & Isles which was where he made his last appearance before his death. On August 19, 2013 when he did not show up for the filming of an episode of Rizzoli & Isles, the Police checked on him at his apartment and found him dead. His death was caused by gunshot wounds which were ruled to have been self-inflicted. Young had committed suicide at the age of 29.
